Poughkeepsie, New York – Faith Christian Academy Eighth Graders, David Leino and DeAngelo Abadsidis were recognized as winners of the Dutchess County Department of Community and Behavioral Health’s “Be Tick Free” Video Competition at tonight’s meeting of the Legislature. School officials, faculty and friends were on hand as Dutchess County Legislator and Tick Task Force Chairman, Donna Bolner and the Lyme Disease Task Force presented the FCA students with awards and prizes totaling $500 Per Division.

The “Tick Be Free” competition invited Dutchess County Middle School Students to create a 30 or 60 second live action, computer animated public service announcement on how to prevent tick-borne disease. The goal of the contest was to help students learn in a fun and creative way how to prevent Lyme and other tick-borne diseases while the same time utilizing their digital media skills to teach others the dangers ticks pose to their families and pets.

“Tick-borne disease education is of paramount importance for everyone in Dutchess County,” said Task Force Chairman, Donna Bolner.  “Who better than our youngest generation to help educate the entire community and prepare the next generation of Dutchess County residents to protect themselves?"

“We at Faith Christian Academy continually challenge our students to reach out beyond the classroom and apply their learning into the community at large,” said Sara Jacob, FCA Dean of Academic Affairs and Administrative Affairs. “We are grateful that County Executive Molinaro and county leaders gave us the opportunity to do just that by playing a small role in the county’s efforts to educate people about Lyme Disease.”
