High school roundup: Spackenkill, Red Hook, Pine Plains volleyball advance

 

Nini Sher had 13 kills, four assists, 10 aces and a block, helping lead the third-seeded Spackenkill High School volleyball team to a 25-7, 25-12, 25-13 win over visiting No. 6 James I. O’Neill in the Section 9 Class B quarterfinals on Wednesday.

 

Kiara Cherry added 13 assists and an ace for the third-seeded Spartans (16-1). Taylor Gennodie had six kills, an assist and three aces.

Spackenkill visits John S. Burke Catholic at 6 p.m. on Friday in the semifinals.

SECTION 1 VOLLEYBALL: Pawling heads into Class C final not speaking of record

Red Hook 3, New Paltz 2 — Morgan Corless had four aces, four kills, 12 digs and 19 assists, as the fourth-seeded host Raiders knocked off the fifth-seeded Huguenots 25-15, 25-21, 16-25, 13-25, 25-15 in a Section 9 Class B quarterfinal.

Abby Carney added three aces, four kills, four blocks, three digs and one assist.

Kelly Brinkman had 19 kills, 10 digs and three aces for New Paltz.

Red Hook visits top-seeded Rondout Valley for a semifinal match at 6 p.m. Friday.

Pine Plains 3, Fallsburg 0 — Haley Strang had six digs, two blocks, 10 kills and an assist, as the host fourth-seeded Bombers defeated fifth-seeded Fallsburg 25-11, 25-11, 25-18 in the Section 9 Class C quarterfinals.

Johanna Schmidt added 13 assists and seven digs. Ashley Starzyk had six digs, three blocks and six kills, while Mackenzie Burton had 11 digs and one kill.

Pine Plains visits top-seeded Millbrook in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

Faith Christian Academy 3, Marvel Wood 1 – Ehsaa Munder had 14 service points and three kills, as the Falcons won 28-26, 20-25, 25-20, 25-13.

Boys soccer

Chris Zhang and Dalton Lois scored for Faith Christian Academy, and the Falcons beat the Well-Played Warriors 2-1 in the Mid-Hudson Christian Athletic League semifinals.

Goalie Andrew Cruz made 15 saves.
