Poughkeepsie, New York – Faith Christian Academy (FCA) in Poughkeepsie held its third annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony today at its new Casperkill Campus located at 25 Golf Club Lane in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization which was established to recognize outstanding high school students. The NHS serves to honor students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. The 2016 FCA students were inducted into the Bettie Damiani Chapter of the National Honor Society which was named after the founder of the School, Mrs. Bettie Damiani. The Chapter is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have a cumulative average of 90% or higher. Recipients are elected based on their application, Faculty Council review, personal essay, letter of recommendation and academic standing.

“We take seriously the selection of those students who are inducted into the National Honor Society,” said FCA Headmaster, Alex Averin. ”We want to be sure the students uphold the Christian values of our own school and that they will maintain this excellence as members of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious student recognition program.”

Faith Christian Academy currently offers both regular and Honors level Regents courses that allow our students to graduate with a NY State Regents or Advanced Regents Diploma. In addition to this, FCA students have the opportunity to earn up to 12 college credits before they graduate. The school strives to offer as many elective courses as possible with staff and space considerations. To date, Anthropology, Forensics, Poetry, College Writing, Public Speaking, Studio Art, Computer, Chorus, Band, Culinary Arts, and Photography have been offered. Similarly, in Athletics we are committed to encouraging our students to participate in a variety of sports and extra-curricular activities. We currently offer programs in soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country, softball and baseball.

Faith Christian Academy has a 2016 enrollment of over 250 students and is blessed with the unique opportunity of enrolling 27 international students from China. In addition to a wonderful work ethic, these students bring a global perspective to FCA. Their participation in class and extra-curricular activities shows that they are active and engaged learners who truly appreciate the opportunity to study at a Christian school.

Faith Christian Academy attained full accreditation by the Association of Christian Schools International and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in 2012.  It is an honor to be acknowledged by these two prestigious organizations as a school that sets and achieves high spiritual and academic standards.  As an accredited school, we continuously examine how our goals, vision, procedures, and policies support our mission statement and our ultimate goal of glorifying Christ in all that we do.
